Horizon 2020 is the EU’s framework programme for innovation and research projects. It is the world’s largest funding programme of its kind with a total budget of almost EUR 80 billion for the 2014-2020 period. It is a very competitive arena where research organisations, enterprises and public agencies both compete and collaborate to get funding for their projects.

Norway is a full member of the programme and opportunities for Norwegian organisations are many. Norwegian participants have received more than NOK 5 billion in funding from this programme so far. 

We will talk about the general EU approach to supporting projects in various fields, project methodology (-ies) applied and the typical project lifecycle. Furthermore, we will provide insight into a current framework programme and the latest developments for the next post-2020 programme called Horizon Europe.

We will go into how project applications got prepared and selected, which types of activities are eligible for funding and what the budget structure looks like. Most of the topics presented will be illustrated by personal project experiences and examples.

Presenter:
Amir Spahic is the Senior Project Manager at CESSDA-ERIC in Bergen. Previously he has been a PMO head at the University of Zagreb in Croatia, and has 14 years of professional experience in project management and public grants absorption capacity building. He has participated in the preparation of approximately two hundred project proposals and implementation of 33 - mostly EU funded - projects in 17 countries worldwide. Amir holds certificates in three leading international standards in project management - PMI's Project Management Professional (PMI-PMP) and Agile Certified Professional (PMI-ACP), as well as Prince2 Foundation. He recently joined the PMI local branch leadership team in Bergen.
