Emotional Intelligence: What drives you during changing times – Part 1
How confident are you in leading or being part of projects during this changing time? Do you feel excited, nervous, or anxious when it comes to managing change? Can you analyze what your feelings are trying to tell you?
Running projects during changing or turbulent times can require you to identify what you feel and understand how they can affect you and your project stakeholders. This session will essentially orientate you with “Self-Awareness” - the first domain of Emotional Intelligence (EI), developed by Daniel Goleman. The importance of Emotional Intelligence for Project Management Professionals is immense. The Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) (6th Edition) states on page 310 the following about Emotional Intelligence: “The Project Manager should invest in personal EI by improving inbound (e.g. self-management and self-awareness) and outbound (e.g. relationship management) competencies. Research suggests that project teams that succeed in developing team EI or become an emotionally competent group are more effective. Additionally, there is reduction in staff turnover.”
Attending this session will help you to identify your emotions during your project activities and communication, recognize the underlying causes behind them, and assess how your emotions affect you and your stakeholders. You can expect interactions and self-reflections during this session which will help you to learn to apply this essential power skill in your own project context.
This session is a pre-requisite of part 2 of this topic. The second part will enable you to take charge of your emotions before they take charge of you, by learning about “Self-Management”, the second domain of Emotional Intelligence. The session will take place on 5 May 2021. We recommend that you sign up to both sessions to save your seat.
